About Us

We are Adam and Rosie Baxendine and we chose the good life over corporate life!

We met in 2003 and within a few months we’d planned a life together. We got married in 2010 and bought Aikenhead House as a renovation project in 2011.

In 2019 corporate life was getting on top of us and we decided we wanted to spend more time at home on the smallholding - developing the large organic veggie garden and raising our own animals to try to be as self sufficient as possible. We also developed our first holiday accommodation - The Attic - a quirky studio space - and we enjoyed welcoming guests and sharing our property.

2020 was a challenging year, but we launched The Orchard as a luxury bell tent glamping experience. 2021 sees the opening of The Cottage - accessible holiday accommodation in a more traditional cottage setup. We decided to close The Orchard at the end of 2023 - to give us time to create a new, permanent off grid experience to offer guests in the future.

Each property has its own character - and its own outside space with a private wood burning hot tub!

Adam’s background is in renewable energy and are passionate about protecting our planet so the small holding is run off wood pellets and solar panels,  we use chemical and plastic free products wherever possible and source local organic food whenever we can.

Rosie is a cycle leader and runs Bikepacking experiences - so if you fancy combining your stay with a night under the stars we can arrange for bikes and all equipment to do that.

Rosie will guide you to a picture perfect wild and remote camp spot then leave you to cook your dinner on a camp stove (all fully provided) then catch up the following morning to guide you back again. All you need is a sense of adventure and we can create a suitable route for your fitness and aspirations!
